Credit Union and CPI

Both the Credit Union and CPI corporations are authoritative in decision making. In credit Union, the board members meet with the upper management every month to decide on the way forward for the organization. They take responsibility for their decisions because they are confident. According to Levin (2006), people who are confident know that risks exist, but they are willing to take the risk nonetheless in decision making.

Every week, the upper level managers and the middle level managers meet to make decisions regarding the running of the organization. The members of the organization, who are involved with the practical implementation of decisions are left out in the decision making process. Some level of facilitative decision making is practiced at the Credit Union organization where the upper level management involves the middle level management in decision making.

One good aspect of authoritative decision making is that the process of making decisions is made swift as no time is wasted in consultations. Facilitative decision making employed in Credit Union organization helps in ensuring quality of decisions made as a wider variety of opinions is sought. The quality of decisions made expresses to customers how their needs and satisfaction are important to the organization’s operations, which in turn creates customer loyalty to the organization. CPI Corporation exclusively uses authoritative style of decision making. This is portrayed by the fact that lower level managers are not allowed to make even the slightest decisions affecting their work. Decision making in CPI Corporation is highly structured with decisions being passed either downwards or upwards within the structure.

Authoritative decision making is fast and this aspect is favorable to stakeholders who are concerned with the efficiency of the organization as quick decision making and implementation is an indicator of good performance of any organization.

Citi Bank

In Citi Bank, a variety of decision making styles are used. Decision making based on delegation is prominent in this organization where the local management has been given authority to make decisions regarding the daily activities within their local area of operation. This is favorable aspect that helps the organization to overcome problems brought about by different contingencies within their daily operations. This helps the organization to be well adapted in different environments thereby having a competitive advantage over their competitors. Consultative decision making style is employed to some extent in Citi Bank.

Suggestions are taken from the different levels of the organization and focus groups representing employees are involved in finding solutions and problem solving. All the solutions and recommendations are delivered to the corporate level, which is the final decision maker. Consultative decision making style may motivate employees by making them feel valued when they are consulted in decision making process. This style of decision making may be very attractive to stakeholders as it can be portrayed by the management as an employee motivator. A motivated workforce will yield results, which enable the organization to achieve its goals. However, the suggestions given to the corporate managers may never be implemented if it does not seem appropriate to them.

Wal-Mart

Wal-Mart organization encourages decision making at all levels. Some degree of facilitative decision making is used at Wal-Mart organization where all level managers are involved in the process. The decisions made are then passed down the organization structure. Consultative decision making is also evident at Wal-Mart where suggestions are collected from the members during grass root survey. A favorable aspect about facilitative decision making is that decisions made are of high quality since many people with varied opinions were used.

Madelia high School

Madelia high School uses facilitative decision making and to some extent, decision making based on delegation. The coming together of board members and the superintendent constitutes facilitative decision making. The authority given to the teacher to make decisions regarding petty issues represent decision making by delegation. Delegation of authority to the teacher empowers him/her to decide on decisions that may arise within daily operations of the school making the operation efficient. This is a favorable aspect that may make the parents to have faith with school.
