Introduction

The dilemma of correlation between leadership and management is one of the most striking problems of business in the twenty-first century. Leadership and management perform essential but different functions in organizations. Management usually maintains stability in the firm, while leadership promotes changes within the organizational structures. Leadership drives progress in the organization, focusing on inspiring people, while management focuses on monitoring the performance of employees. To succeed, companies need both leaders and managers. Although most managers must be leaders, not all leaders are managers. In fact, leadership and management in the company are two isolated but correlative frameworks of activity. Each has its own functions and characteristic activities. Thus, for the success of the company in the modern, increasingly complex, and rapidly changing business environment, it is crucial to master both leadership and management.

Examination of my Elements of Leadership Style

There are various types of leadership styles in the work environment. Advantages and disadvantages exist within each leadership style. According to the results of the Leadership Style Assessment Test (2019), I am a transformational leader. My transformational leadership style depends on a high level of leadership communication with objectives. Such leaders as me propel subordinates to increase profitability and adequacy by means of correspondence and high visibility. As a matter of fact, this behavior style requires far-reaching leader’s inclusion to accomplish objectives. Such leaders center around the 10,000-foot view inside the association and delegate smaller tasks to the subordinate groups to accomplish objectives. My scores on the website are as following: ambassador – 13 points out of 25, advocate – 13 out of 25, people mover – 18 out of 25, truth-seeker – 11 out of 25, creative builder – 16 out of 25, experienced guide – 16 out of 25 (“Leadership Style Assessment Test,” 2019). Therefore, I am a leader who takes care of each member of the team, stimulates their intellectual development, and possesses charisma.

Difference Between Leadership and Management Roles

The world of business is becoming increasingly competitive and volatile, and that is why the role of leadership is now especially significant. The rapid development of technology, increased international competition, deregulation, excess capacity in capital-intensive industries, and instability of oil cartels — are all factors determining the variability of modern business (Noe, Hollenbeck, Gerhart, & Wright, 2017). Changes are paramount for survival and successful competition in the contemporary world. In such a context, it is useful to take a simple example from the military sphere. In peacetime, an army may well exist if there are good administrators and managers as well as influential leaders at the top levels. In wartime, the military needs leaders at all levels. Until now, no one knows how to make people go into battle; thus, someone has to lead them.

Different systems of action are required to perform various functions — problem management and change management. And in both systems, it is necessary to decide what to do, create a structure that will carry out the plan, and, finally, try to get people to do their job. But these tasks are performed in each system in their own way. Management in companies deals with the administration of complex structures. It consists of formal managerial methods and procedures. In the absence of competent management, chaos will embrace these complex enterprises to such an extent that it will threaten the company’s very existence (Noe et al., 2017). Skillful management brings to the company key performance indicators, such as product quality and profitability, a particular share of orderliness and consistency.

Concerning administration, it is fundamentally connected with the capacity to sufficiently adapt to changes. In recent years, leadership has gained particular importance in the business environment. This is halfway because of the way that the cutting-edge business world is described incredibly. As a result, if leaders act today by yesterday’s methods or even a little better, it will not lead to success (Noe et al., 2017). Increasingly, companies are facing the challenge of withstanding the onslaught of significant change and being able to maintain their competitiveness in these new conditions. Accordingly, the more serious the change is, the higher the need for effective leadership is.

Conclusion

Overall, the most successful organizations of the twenty-first century differ from their counterparts in that they have more dynamic and effective leadership. The nature of leadership may be better understood when compared to management. Being a manager and being a leader in an organization is not the same thing. The manager, under the framework of his or her influence on the work of subordinates and building relationships with them, first of all, uses and relies on the official basis of the government and its sources. Leadership, as a specific type of relationship management, is based more on the process of social influence, and more precisely, the interaction in the organization. This procedure is substantially more confounded, requiring an abnormal state of interdependence. Therefore, leadership is a somewhat narrower concept than management, limited only by influence, although its scope is wider since influence is used to solve various tasks, including management challenges.
