Renewable energy resources are continually used and have no likelihood of running out; they can be used over and over. These resources include solar energy, power from the wind, water power, waves, and tides. Naturally, they have a limited flow which can serve for a very long time. Solar energy is among the most used renewable resources to generate electricity. Solar cells are the ones used to absorb the energy from the sun and through a chemical reaction electricity from the sun is gotten. This power gotten from the sun energy is strong and can be used even in factories, and some stored in a battery to be used at night when there is no sun light. The photovoltaic solar power is among the most promising renewable source of energy (Abbasi, 85). The solar energy does not have any polluting effect to the environment. The whole solar system does not have movable parts which can be feared to break down. This system calls for little maintenance and occasional supervision.

The researches done proof that, the solar source of energy can serve for a period of 20-30 years at relatively low costs. The solar source of energy does not require large scale installation. Even in remote areas the can generate their own electricity from the sun by either constructing small or large system depending on their needs and potential (Ghosal, 323). The solar power generators which are always available and distributed to homes and institutions do not require more development or extra land area. Their functioning is safe and calm. The capacities of the solar generators are increased as the demands of power in the societies also increase. Photovoltaic power has got several advantages over wind and hydro power. The wind and hydro power are operated with turbines which have several moving parts which are noisy and must be maintained regularly.

Electricity is also gotten from the water which is the main source and used in many states. Moving water is channeled to generators which uses the electricity power. The force with which the water flows with determines the amount of energy which will be obtained from that source. If the water source is flowing at a high speed the amount of electric power generated is very powerful such that it can be served to the whole state.

The kinetic power of the wind is the one relied upon to act on the wind turbines to generate some electricity (McKinney, 260). In wind farms, large amount of electricity can be generated to serve great demands in both onshore and offshore. Wind energy is considered as the cleanest forms of producing electricity among the renewable sources. Wind energy does not have polluting agents, and no burning of fuel components. If at all a wind turbine is erected at a favorable position excellent results are gotten.

The use of renewable energy has got both advantages and disadvantages in the day to day life. The most outstanding advantage of using this type of resources is that it can be used for a very long period of time without depleting the source. Many people have relied on these resources like solar energy since the time immemorial up to date, and they will continue using without an end. The renewable resources are environmentally friendly as they don’t produce carbon based warming and other known polluting agents to the environment (McKinney, 269). Thirdly, these renewable resources do not by any chance contribute to the global warming and have low cost applications compared to other resources. Health wise, the renewable resources lead to much savings on people as they are very friendly. Making decision on how to depend solely on renewable resources for anyone wishing to live well is considered smart living.

However, just like any other source of energy renewable sources of energy have got both advantages and disadvantages. Firstly, for anyone willing to extract power from the sun, he must be having a solar panel. Solar panels are found in different sizes depending on the amount of power one is willing to get from the sun. They are expensive and not everyone can afford to purchase them. In addition, for those who can afford to buy solar panels, there are some months in the year when the climate turns to be unfavorable for the solar panels (Ghosal, 346). During this period of time, the person relying on solar energy will be forced to look for some other alternatives. Secondly, wind requires turbines for it to generate some power. There are some areas where wind keeps on blowing most of the time and other areas where the wind is experienced occasionally. This source of energy can not be classified as reliable. There are some other renewable sources that call for advanced technology for them to be of use to humankind. For waves to be converted to power different technologies must be put into practice, and a lot of involvement of scientists is also an expensive trial.

Moreover, building tides across river mouths is costly and brings some distractions to shipping. As well, the construction of dams is also expensive and comes with environmental disruptions. For any person willing to extract power from the earth, drilling down into the earth must be done by specialized people with a machine to avoid further damages to the soil (Ghosal, 445). Biofuel makes use of cropland and the crops themselves creating some economic problems of increasing the prices of cheap foods. The requirements for electric power in the state are needed in large quantities. That is why the electricity which is used in large organizations such as hospitals, learning institutions, and other income-generating institutions rely on the electricity produced by traditional fossil fuel generators. All that electric power that is needed by the whole state can not be generated by renewable sources unless the energy which is required is reduced. For these renewable sources to produce a large amount of energy demanded more energy facilities would be required to be purchased.

In conclusion, renewable sources of energy have been of great use to people all over. It has made the people who are in remote areas enjoy the benefits of electricity. Many activities and income-generating operations have been made possible in remote areas by the use of solar energy (Abbasi, 102). Many developments have been recorded in these remote areas just because of making use of renewable energy resources. Despite considering that, renewable energy mostly relies on the weather so as to supply power, hydro generators require rain to fill dams, and wind turbines require wind to rotate the blades, and solar collectors require clear skies and sun rays to make electricity. The advantages of renewable energy sources outweigh the disadvantages and that is why scientists are concerned about advancing the technology of utilizing these renewable sources more effectively at lower costs.
